“What I like best about my job is making a difference for my clients who are often in difficult situations.”
With 12 years as a patent attorney, Ray has extensive experience with clients in a variety of technologies across many industries, including computer hardware and software, mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic and biotechnical. He works closely with in-house counsel and managers, invention review committees and inventors to evaluate new innovations and to develop and implement U.S. and worldwide patent strategies.
From taking and analyzing the invention disclosure through preparation of the patent application, Ray’s focus is on the quality of the patent application to withstand U.S. and international examination, post-grant review or enforcement.
Ray assists businesses with strategic procurement of new technologies and opinions and negotiates contracts and licenses. He works with clients to establish and manage patent portfolios with timely status updates and proactive communication. He successfully represents clients through prosecution and reexamination proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and through all phases of the litigation process in patent infringement cases.
Legal and technical experience
Ray is quick to understand and master new technologies and to form excellent working relationships with inventors, clients and U.S. Patent Office examiners. He obtains and evaluates technical disclosures; renders opinions on issues of claim construction, infringement and validity; and prepares, files and prosecutes patent applications for U.S. clients and associates around the world. Ray also conducts examiner interviews, responds to Office Actions and, when appropriate, handles appeals, all with the single-minded goal of obtaining issuance of strong enduring patents — Beem patents — for the firm’s clients.
In patent litigation, Ray’s experience includes drafting pleadings; drafting and responding to discovery requests and motions; assisting in depositions; preparing principal and reply briefs on issues of claim construction, validity and infringement; and preparing for oral argument before the Federal Circuit or the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).
