How much does a patent cost
How much does it cost to get a patent? This is one of the questions most frequently asked by clients.
According to a recent survey by the American Intellectual Property Law Association, attorney fees for preparing and filing a U.S. utility patent application were reported to range from $5,000 (basic mechanical) to $17,000 (complex software, bio or chemical), depending on the city, the firm, and the nature and complexity of the invention. This does not include costs, e.g., for drawings and Patent Office filing fees.
When Beem Patent Law Firm agrees to represent a client in a patent matter, a specific estimate normally is prepared and discussed after review of the particular invention, in view of all the facts and circumstances, including the nature and complexity of the invention, the amount of attorney time and skill expected to be required, the number of applications to be prepared and filed for the client and, if the matter is urgent, a premium may be charged for expediting the matter. Estimates take into account attorney fees and costs such as patent drawings and Patent Office filing fees.
Beem Patent Law Firm is committed to providing reasonable fees, careful control of costs, and clear communications to clients regarding fees and costs before or within a reasonable time after beginning work on a patent matter.
